August 19, 2009 / Peachtree Pale Ale named Creative Loafing's Beer of the Week
Jeff Holland of Creative Loafing says, "Peachtree Pale Ale pours a hazy, burnished gold, with an off-white fluffy head that leaves some nice lacing. Citrusy and floral hops dominate the aroma, with some caramel malt in the background. The taste is hop-forward, with a strong grapefruit rind bitterness upfront from the Cascade hops, juicy citrus in the middle, and spicy dryness in the finish."

July 8, 2009 / US Open Beer Championship
Breweries and home brewers worldwide have another reason to say "cheers!" with the establishment of the first annual United States Open Beer Championships*, the first competition to include professional brewers and award winning home brewers.

Fifty categories were judged. Winners will receive a medal in the shape of a beer stein for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place. Beers placing in the top 10 of each category and top 10 breweries overall will be featured in America’s Best and Top 10 as well as BeerInfo.com. Along with the medals awarded, A Grand National Champion will be awarded based on a point system for beers (5 minimum) entered in the competition.

Red Brick won #9 brewery in the US! We also took home these awards:
- GOLD (French/Belgian Ale Category) Red Brick Winter
- SILVER (Golden or Blonde Ale Category) Red Brick Blonde
- SILVER (Chocolate/Cocoa Beer Category) Red Brick Porter

Bob Budd, Atlanta Brewing Company President says, "The competition was open to 1000 breweries from 30 countries, and also home brewers. The 'In the News' section of the US Open web site gives the info on the competition, but needless to say, three Georgia breweries in the top ten in the nation is a shock, since there are only about six interstate brewers in the South. Atlanta Brewing placed at number nine ahead of Sweetwater at ten and behind Terrapin at number seven. Great Southern Beer isn't just a slogan, its a fact."

April 21, 2009 / Red Brick Scores Big At The Carolina Championships Of Beer
The Atlanta Brewing Company recently claimed five medals and Best of Show at The Hickory Hops Festival, a beer competition that evaluates beers from around the Southeastern US and recognizes the most outstanding beers being produced in the region today. The CCB is the only certified competition in the South.

Atlanta Brewing Company competed among 40 microbreweries and was awarded a Gold for its Bogart Ale in the Special Bitter or Best Bitter category. Bogart Ale was also named Best of Show, topping all other entries. Bogart Ale was developed in partnership with the Mellow Mushroom pizza chain and is currently available only at their stores. Peachtree Pale Ale won Gold in the American Pale Ale category for second straight year. Silver medals were claimed for Red Brick Helles Bock in the Helles or Maibock category and for Red Brick Ale in the Robust Irish Red Ale category. Red Brick Double Chocolate Oatmeal Porter was awarded a Bronze in the Oatmeal Stout category. Atlanta Brewing Company is a 7,000-bbl. microbrewery located in Atlanta, Georgia, and has established itself as a leader in brewing award winning beers from the South.

Brewer Dave McClure says "It's an honor to win these medals at Hickory Hops, which is the only judged competition in the Southeast. This is proof positive that craft beer consumers in our region can indeed support their local brewery and know they're drinking world class beers."

Carolina Championship 2009 winners were selected by certified judges, brewing professionals and homebrewers from throughout the region, working in teams to conduct blind tasting evaluations of the beers. Competition guidelines included descriptions for 120 different beer styles.

April 2, 2009 / Special Beer & Cheese Tasting
Mark your calendar for THURSDAY, APRIL 9th, 2009. We're having a special beer & cheese tasting event at the Atlanta Brewing Company from 6pm to 8pm. This is a free event. Take a pint glass home for only $7.

"It's widely assumed that wine and cheese are compatible friends. They're paired together so routinely that phrases like "the white wine and Brie crowd" can be used to define a social set. But all is not well in this friendship. At least one wine writer has recognized this, according to brew master and gourmand Garrett Oliver of Brooklyn Brewing: Willy Gluckstern, a somewhat cranky New York wine critic, called wine and cheese a "train wreck in the mouth."
Not many folks realize that beer and cheese have far more in common than wine and cheese. Both are simple and nutritious, each born of Graminae and carefully nurtured in an ancient fermentation process. Of course, the beer aficionado must be forgiving of the fact that cheese residue remaining on the lips will crash the finest head formations of any beer. If you can put up with that inconvenience, you'll find that most beer styles are quite compatible with most cheese types." -Fred Eckhardt

March 10, 2009 / Red Brick Ale Review by BeerAmerica
"This is the beer that started it all for the Atlanta Brewing Company in 1993. Red Brick Brown Ale is full of malty goodness involving subtle hints of chocolate and coffee... this beer was extremely well balanced and light enough to be enjoyed any time of the year." - BeerAmerica.tv.

March 5, 2009 / Helles Bock is Atlanta Journal-Constitution Beer Pick
AJC Beer Critic Bob Townsend says "spring seasonal is a crisp but robust brew, which makes it ideal for this time of year, when winter is still in the air but warmer temperatures are on the way." Read more here.

October 2008 / Winter Brew 2008-2009
The new Winter Brew for this season is going to be a Belgian inspired dark strong ale. Brewed with four Belgian specialty malts and fermented using White Labs "Trappist Ale Yeast", this will be a sweet and malty beer with low hop aroma and nice and warming at 8.2% ABV. Red Brick Porter is our November 2008 Red Brick Beer of the Month.

September 30, 2008 / Introducing... RED BRICK PORTER
Because of popular demand, last year's Winter Brew, which was a Double Chocolate Oatmeal Porter, has been added to the year round roster beginning in mid October, so you can drink it all 12 months of the year. A blend of specially roasted malts gives Red Brick Porter a decadent chocolate flavor and an exceptionally smooth finish to compliment a rich, full body and luxurious mouth feel. ABV 7.7%.

May 2008 / Heavy Metal
Brewer Dave McClure has done it again y'all! Atlanta Brewing Company just came home from the Craft Brewer's Conference and World Beer Cup in San Diego last weekend with a Gold Medal and a Bronze Medal. The gold went to Red Brick Barrel Select in the Wood and Barrel Aged Beer category. This is our flagship brand, Red Brick Ale, that has been aged in a Jim Beam Bourbon barrel for 10 months. Dave only made one very small batch of this, and sadly, it's all gone. We'll be making more barrel aged products though, so don't despair. And remember, we started with the same fantastic Red Brick Ale that you can find on tap and on the shelf at restaurants, bars, package and grocery stores all over the Southeast.

The Bronze went to Numbers Ale in the Special Bitter or Best Bitter category. Numbers Ale pours a light copper color, with a slight malt sweetness, mild hop bitterness and a fresh floral aroma and flavor character. Numbers is available on draft primarily in one restaurant group's establishments (state law does not permit me to name that group, but there's a clue in the name), and also in bottles at package and grocery stores throughout metro Atlanta.

As if that wasn't enough for one week, on April 12 at The Hickory Hops Festival and Carolina Championship of Beer, Peachtree Pale Ale claimed the Gold in the American Pale Ale category and Red Brick Ale brought home the Bronze in the English Brown Ale category.

October 2007 / Red Brick Blonde takes the Gold!
In just our second year of entering the competition at the Great American Beer Festival in Denver, ABC Brewmaster Dave McClure brought home a Gold Medal in the Golden or Blonde Ale category. GABF is the largest and most recognized beer festival in the United States, with over 400 breweries and 2800 beers participating in the competition.

November 30, 2006 / Atlanta Brewing named one of "10 great places to see what's brewing in beer" by USA Today - see the article here.
